Daylight Robbery - Consumer Complaint for KASANE BUREAU DE CHANGE

My husband and I went on a very long road trip in December, travelling through Namibia to get to South Africa,

As I work for a lodge on a small island on the Namibia side opposite Kasane, I earn tips in US$.

Just before we left on our trip, I went to the Bureau Exchange in Kasane to exchange the US$.

I gave them US$700 and in return, I SHOULD have gotten N$9856.00. Instead, they gave me N$1056.00. That is daylight robbery. Nobody at that Bureau had the decency to call me back and admit to making a mistake, instead they just let me go. Sadly, as we were in a hurry, I did not have the time to double check what they gave me. This happened at the branch near the Spar in Kasane

It was only when we got to South Africa that my friends who travel ALOT brought this to my attention and asked me how that is possible, they know the exchange rate very well and were disgusted by what had happened. Said I would look into this when we got back from holiday which I am doing now.

Sadly, due to our lengthy travels, it seems I unfortunately lost the slip they gave me. If I still had it, I would have gone back to them and demanded the rest of my money but then I would have gotten a lame excuse like - you should have double checked or it is not our responsibility or something else they could think of

The 2 girls behind the counter, were not even in uniform and they both looked completely clueless. This happened round about the 9th December 2018.

If it is this easy to rob locals who do a lot of business for the lodge in Kasane, just exactly how easy is it for them to rob the tourists? Kasane being the tourist hub
