William from Hawkeys Electrical contractors has been giving us the runaround for the past two weeks and doing half jobs just to keep us quiet. We have paid him his deposit but there is no finished work. This is truly unacceptable and unprofessional.

I am the owner of a guesthouse and was on holiday in the Cape Province, while a friend took care of our guesthouse. It was the Durban July weekend and we were fully booked. Our power kept on tripping and according to the electrician from the Municipality there was a fault on the cable running from the Municipality's distribution box to my property. I decided to rent a generator, because i was not sure how long it would take to Municipality to fix the problem. I googled electricians and found Hawkeys Electical. I contacted William from Hawkeys Electrical, and explained my predicament to him. William first tried to con me by submitting a quote to me for R13700 which stated that i have to rent the generator for a minimum of 4 days. I phoned William and told him that I cannot afford it, but that i am willing to rent it for 1 day, and if necessary for another day. He then told me that the generator belonged to his brother and that he will sort is out with his brother. William then gave me a verbal quote of R8500 - this amount included a a deposit of R3000, a Connection Fee of R4200 and a 1 Day Rental Fee for the generator of R1300. He also insisted that i must pay upfront before he will deliver the generator. I made a direct payment into his account at about 11h00 on Friday 05 July. By 14h00 the generator was not delivered and when i phoned him he told me that the generator had to be collected in Umhlanga Rocks, but will be at my property soon. One of William's employees turned up with the generator after a while and connected it to the Mains at my house, but the generator kept on tripping, and it never worked, not even for 2 minutes. William's employee just left the generator at my property, and went home. In the meantime the electrician from the Municipality was now busy installing a temporal cable to my property and at about 16h00 power was restored. Our friend contacted me to inform me of this, and i immediately phoned William and told him the story and asked him to come and collect the generator, to which he agreed to, but did not. Saturday morning 06 July, i phoned William again and asked him again to come and remove the generator, to which he agreed to, but did not. Monday afternoon 08 July when we returned home the generator was still at my property. I phoned William and i told him that i cannot be held responsible for the rental of the generator as i asked him on Friday and Saturday to remove it. He again promised to come and collect it. Tuesday morning 09 July, staff from Coastal Hire in Pinetown, turned up at my property to come and collect their generator. It was only then that i realized that William has told me a lot of lies. On further contacting Coastal Hire, i learned that a generator can be rented from them on a daily basis; that the day rental including vat is R575 per day. I phoned William again and asked for my deposit of R3000 plus half of the 1 day's rental that he have charged me, to which he agreed to. No money came forward, and when i phoned William again he told me that he is busy fighting with Coastal Hire because there was a fault with the generator, which was a lie. Coastal Hire have tested the generator and there was nothing wrong with it. William then promised to pay on a later date as he was waiting for money to clear, and nothing happened. More lies followed. I then gave him an ultimatum to pay my money, and if my deposit is not refunded, i will be left with no other choice but to write a negative review on his web page. No money was returned. I wrote a negative review on his web page, which he has removed. Then i wrote a negative review on Hello Peter. The bottom line is that up to date i have not received a single cent in refund from William at Hawkeys Electrical. I feel very much aggrieved because i thought that i was dealing with a Professional Company (he was advertising on different platforms) to which i can turn to in my hour of need. It is now clear to me that William from Hawkeys Electrical is not an honorable person, and that the service that he provided to me was totally unacceptable.
