I joined planet fitness on friday 19/03/21 only because the manager gave me a good deal and said I only had to pay the tag fee of R125 which I deposited on 20/03/21 but now I recieve an email of my contract I see a R558.60 total joining fee and the manager also promised me that I will pay R299 for the first 3 months of joining but the contract says on 25/04 they will deduct R399. That was not our agreement and I would like to terminate my contract

I feel you my dear, that's exactly what happened to me.. Their contract says different story not on what we agreed on.

I phoned Plannet Fitness to terminate my month to month contract gym in January. Now I am getting numerous calls demanding a payment.Today I got an email stating arrears for an amount of R1344.00. I feel that I am not treated fairly since I have not been utilising their services almost over a year due to corona pandemic. no one ever called me or show a concern but now that I am terminating the gym company decide to rip me off.

I purchased a subscription to Planet Fitness for my mother as a mother's day gift back in May of 2019.She stopped going during the pandemic and canceled the subscription (in person)back in March of 2020 aswell as calling the hq number to cancel the subscription and was told that it was infact canceled.But I noticed just recently as I was checking my bank statements that Planet Fitness has actively been taking money out of my acct. since March of last year(2020)even while the quarentine was in effect.I would like to ask that Planet Fitness 1. cancel my subscription and 2.refund me the monies that were taken out of my bank acct. without my knowledge or consent since March of 2020(during the quarentine).

Good day I am a member at the new planet fitness gym in Potchefstroom, I understand that wearing a mask is mandatory but with certain training you can't train with a mask on and if we take off our masks to breathe we get threatened that if we don't put it back on our membership will be blocked and they don't mind losing clients please intervene with your Potchefstroom branch...

My card is blocked while I made payment the month of February, and I was told I owe them while all along have been coming and asking if I owe and was told the debit was done and don't owe any amount. To my surprise now I owe the amount of R800? I am not happy with service received because I have almost two months gyming and suddenly I owe. Investigate why was I given wrong information.

I have been trying to cancel my membership since March 2020. I was then told I would need to pay R1600 or continue to use until my membership ended in 5 months. After the gyms reopened I have been paying for the requisite 5 months. Now when I want to confirm my membership being over I get told I owe 6 months. When I requested the contract that states this nobody can provide me with one. The last membership I signed that you have on record is from 2018.this is completely
unacceptable. I am being held liable for something without a contract

Hi

I don’t understand why I am owing you guy as my 12 months contract was over long time ago. I was on month to month for the service used only. I called to cancel somebody told me I have to pay for two months instalments as a penalty yet I never been in the gym almost a year now. What are you penalising me for if I may ask as I never bridge any contract with you guys?

Reason for me to cancel was the affordability as I am on short time at work. Now how on earth do you expect me to pay for nothing honestly?

My annual fee is meant to to up around May/June.

I have contacted head office for admin to contact me and still no call back.

So I see this as a head office problem amd not a planet fitness Glenanda( where I train problem). The general manager there is lovely, I saw that their was a personal training position available so applied amd my cv was sent to head office, it's been 2 weeks now, no one has come back to me, if I'm not good enough just say so, but atleast keep people I the loop, I feel this is very poor service and I dont even know if I wanna work with a company that is unorganized, I can only blame head office as Glenanda planet fitness is amazing everyone is very helpful, please could someone email me, sean2***@gmail.com.

My Daughter was approached in 2019 and told that there was a special for 6 Months for GYM and she will be paying R99. The person that was assisting her had no right to give a minor membership and lie by not telling her she will be paying R229 after 6 months .Now they say she is arrears for R1186.00 and i do not know who will pay as my Daughter is not working.

Planet fitness is by far the most unprofessional and useless GYM that i have ever come across. I have been trying to get assistance since last year November and even I have not had a single call center agent that has been able to help me with my queries. They all have an attitude, the gym I have signed up at has just as bad sales services.
I have been unlawfully been handed over to an attorney and I have been trying to get assistance, but to date, there has been no luck. I will seek assistance from the ombudsman.

BACKGROUND

I, Lizel Botma (the Complainant), ID: 8206070025080, entered into a 2-year contract with Planet Fitness in 2020. The Applicant submits that the contract was for a 2 year period.

On 12 February 2021 the Complainant requested to cancel her contract because she was retrenched and could no longer afford to pay her gym fees. At some point while attempting to cancel the contract via telecom at Planet Fitness Moreleta Park, the Complainant was told by the Consultant that there would be a termination fee applicable which amounted to R1600.00 plus minus. I kindly asked the consultant if there is any way possible they are able to accommodate me as I have just been retrenched and I have no indication if I would be able to secure a permanent job again as a result of COVID 19 affecting a lot of businesses. She clearly stated that Planet Fitness cannot accommodate me and I have to pay the full amount in order to cancel the contract. I find the service I received very unprofessional and would like Planet Fitness to understand I am not cancelling the contract because I want to but because of a retrenchment which is beyond my control and as a result of this I cannot afford any payment whatsoever. I am appalled with the unfriendly service and treatment my wife and I were subjected to at your Pinetown branch.
To be fair to your Manager he was not present at the time of the incident so I didn't afford him the opportunity to address the issue.
Be that as it may, I did find this platform where I can report the matter.
I will provide you with a lead into your investigation and hope that the matter will be properly investigated. I do offer myself to testify if the guilty parties are dismissed and decide to take legal action against your organisation.
It has become a practise in the Pinetown branch for the staff to switch of the lights of the gym while members are training, in order to alert them that it is locking up time.
I believe that such actions are aggressive and risk the safety of your members.
Last week, my wife was in ladies, and the dangerous and risk practise was again employed by your staff. She did not utilise the facility and came back to me traumatized. "The toilets went pitch black, I was so scared"-wife.
We left without complaining.
During the week I received an email from your establishment that the hours had been adjusted. I was excited thinking I could take advantage of the courtesy.
During my excitement I mistakenly misconstrued the times to be 07:00 to 21:00 Mon-Fri.
So as I was training, at around about 20:00 the lights flickered and I thought "No man, I know the times have been changed to 21:00."
No staff member came to me to address me, they kept on switching the lights off and on, the longer I trained the longer the lights were turned off before they came back on.
At one point I was doing a set and the lights were off.
Eventually Thabane Mthethwa, came to me and advised me that I was to leave as the closing time was 20:00. I told him I thought it was at 21:00 but he insisted and I eventually agreed and reported to the front desk for their details.
Sihle Zungu is the staff member that was controlling the lights. I am not sure if this was discussed and agreed between them- Buddy Mzizi, was present did not participate but failed to execute his duty to protect the customer, and if he fails to report the matter to his manager he would be guilty of residual misconduct. Your footage should provide sufficient evidence.

I signed up at Planet Fitness Glenanda in October 2020, I was told by Given that they are running a special that will give me free access to the gym during October, November only pay R199 and December R199, when they started billing me it was this insane amount which I did not agree upon,

I signed the contract on an iPad and the contract was not shown to me...After I saw the billing in November and checked my contract it was all incorrect... (I have all the messages saved where I spoke to Given about the fees)

I spoke to Given and he ensured me that he will discuss the matter with the accounts and sort my account out, till today nothing was done on my account,

I spoke to a very rude lady at planet fitness - kskhosana @ planetfitness . co . za which was not helpful at all as usual!!!

I have been trying to cancel membership for almost almost a year they bill me every month whenever I contact them they give me a case number and promise to get back to me but nothing happens, my contract ended but they still billing me

I had cancelled my membership and had the proof of the mail that confirmed that my membership had been successfully cancelled and they handed me over. I send that proof of e-mail including and asked them to contact the debit collector and take my name of and still they send me SMS's that they had handed me over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was not happy about your customer service in your organisation. Your sales consultant captured my details, whilst I clearly told him that, i still need to decide whether I join or not....I was being assisted by the JB. It was last year 2020. Hence i was Virgin active member. He said, he won't capture my details unless I have a cancellation letter. He took cash for tag money. I never got it back.Surprisingly, R99 has been deducted in my account since November 2020. 1February 2021, the amount of R649,00 was deducted in my account again! I tried to ask the Sales manager(Prosper) in Planet Wanderes to assist, with no luck. I even tried the manager, by the name of Justine...nothing!!
I cannot take such fraud any longer!

I have a membership with Planet fitness (QUEENSWOOD) and my membership was supposed to end last month (January) according to the signed contract. It has come to my concern that planet fitness has been trying to debit money from my account for the month of February. I called the facility to enquire about my membership and I was told that my membership was extended until June. The lock down was a form of a natural disaster so I do not see the need to pay for those months missed and besides that my point is that I did not sign any agreement agreeing for my contract to be extended, THIS IS ACTUALLY THEFT. What I am now kindly asking is for the facility to cancel my membership, failure to do so I will go to my bank and stop the debit order.

I would appreciate your intervention in this matter.

I've been requesting planet fitness arcadia to refund me since the 6th of November 2020 when they took an extra R269 from my account and i am yet to receive my refund. They keep giving me a date for when I'll get my refund but then it never really comes. It came to the point where i cancelled my planet fitness membership because they kept lying about when they'd give me back my money. I'm contemplating going on social media or approaching the consumer complaints commission.

Good day

Just spoke to a gentlemen today, regarding the cancelation of my contract. He told me that my contract has been extended by 5 months and also mentioned that I notified regarding this.

1. I spoke to another gentlemen last year January 2020 and agreed with him that planet-fitness can continue debiting from my account as I didn't have the R2000+ that I needed to pay in order to cancel my contract.
2. The gentlemen I spoke to today told me that I was notified about the extension of my contract due to the lockdown. I was never notified about this (via phone call or email), and I didn't agree to this and I want my contract canceled immediately.

Who can I speak to in regards to the issue I'm facing with planet-fitness?

Please help.

Hi Khongelani,

Just so you know me and husband are facing the same issue,our Gym contract ended in August last year and they are still deducting from us.When we contacted them they said they have send out emails to extend our memberships but both me and my husband never received such emails from Planet Fitness during lockdown last year.

We have asked them to forward that email that was send to us regarding the extension of our contract,they can't provide us with that email.

We want our contract to be cancelled as soon as possible.
